The MEEBA Alumni Verein was established in 2015 by former students of the Master’s program „International Energy Economics and Business Administration“, a cooperative study program between Leipzig University and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).
Leipzig University, in Leipzig in the Free State of Saxony, Germany, is one of the world’s oldest universities and the second-oldest university (by consecutive years of existence) in Germany. Since its inception, the university has engaged in teaching and research for over 600 years without interruption.
MGIMO is one of the leading Russian universities that offers numerous educational programs in 18 key fields of study, including: international relations, international economic relations, regional studies, international law, political science, public and business administration, journalism, public relations, commerce and transnational business. MGIMO University is an academic institution run by thr Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia which is widely considered the most elite university in Russia.
The Alumni Association organizes the annual Alumni Lecture Series. Between eight to ten distinguished alumni speakers give first hand insights about key changes in the energy industry today and their effect on corporations, politics and society. We invite all current students and alumni to gain a practical edge, learn about possible career paths following the degree and to connect with a strong alumni network.

Over the past five years, we have had the chance to connect our MEEBA Alumni through several events. In 2018, we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the study program together with the Verbundnetzgas AG at their Headquarter in Leipzig. One year later, we hosted – in the storied halls of the MGIMO chess rooms – our first Alumni meeting in Moscow. With representatives from the German embassy (Under Secretary Thomas Graf), the MGIMO University (Vice-Rector Prof. Malgin) and with our Sponsors (Rosneft Germany, EEX Group, VNG, Exxeta), we discussed current and future challenges of the energy industry. The evening was filled with delicious food and exciting dinner table discussions. We are looking forward to hosting next year’s get-together in Berlin on lake Wannsee at the Bildungsstätte Schwanenwerder (April 30th – May 3rd 2020).
